Dying From Red Tape

In 2019, opponents of expanded access to health care tried to cut Medicaid by imposing so-called work requirements. The new requirements were so cumbersome that hundreds of thousands of people would have lost coverage. The Dying from Red Tape campaign was created by Sarah Christopherson. Activating Raising Women’s Voices’ grassroots network, we successfully mobilized opposition to work requirements. Dying from Red Tape is even more relevant now that Congress has passed a law requiring all states to implement Medicaid work requirements in 2027. The attached documents include an overview of the campaign and background about structural racism in the design of Medicaid.
